This powerful exploration of baptism challenges us to reconsider what we think we know about our relationship with God. Drawing from Luke 3 and 9, we're reminded that baptism isn't something we do for God—it's something God does for us. Before Jesus performed a single miracle, taught any parable, or went to the cross, the Father declared over Him: 'You are my Son, whom I love. With you I am well pleased.' This same declaration echoes over each of us at our baptism, regardless of our age or understanding at the time. The message confronts a deeply rooted misconception many of us carry: that we must earn God's approval through good works and perfect behavior. Instead, baptism reveals that grace comes first—the water before the work, the blessing before the mission. We're invited to understand that being comes before doing, and that our identity as beloved children of God precedes any mission He calls us to. The image of walking through life with 'wet hair'—still marked by the waters of baptism—reminds us that we never dry off from God's grace. We're not just worthy despite our imperfections; we're worthy because God declared it so when He marked us as His own.
